Pure Black Teas

Blends

Our favourite blends:

  • Iford Manor House Blend   £2.19 /100g
Our classic, robust house blend, ideal at any time of day, but especially good as that "first cup of the day", being warm, malty and ideal with milk.
  • High-grown Afternoon Blend   £2.19 /100g
A lighter blend, based mainly on teas from Ceylon and Java, with an edgy, fresh flavour, and a leafy finish. Crisp, clean drinking, with or without milk.

China

  • Keemun Congou   £2.19 /100g
Medium strength with a loamy, slightly smoky flavour; excellent with or without milk.
  • Yunnan FOP   £2.19 /100g
Typical Yunnan character – earthy, fruity and sweet; we think it's best with milk, because it brings out the nuttier flavours.
  • Yunnan Gold First Grade   £8.95 /50g
A stunning example of the finest orthodox tea from Yunnan province: golden needles, covered in shimmering down, with a smooth, light nutty flavour and lingering sweet aftertaste.
A tea for the purist, but probably not for the milk enthusiast!

India

  • Darjeeling FTGFOP1 Ambootia Estate 2nd Flush (Organic)   £4.29 /100g
A fairly tea-ish Darjeeling, not too bitter, with plenty of classic muscatel flavour and a long leafy sweetness on the finish.
  • Darjeeling FTGFOP1 Nurbong Estate 1st Flush   £8.99 /100g (tin)
Utterly gorgeous, light fruity first flush without the prevalent edgy bitterness of many from this genre. Well worth trying for a refined, light and refreshing cup of tea which doesn't need milk.
  • Sikkim Temi Garden   £3.89 /100g
The rare teas from the former Kingdom of Sikkim are not dissimilar to fine Darjeelings; the Temi garden produces this fine, tippy tea with a very fresh flavour, bursting with energy.
  • Assam TGBOP Sewpur Estate (Organic)   £2.89 /100g
A decidedly solid Assam tea, with an excellent balance of flavour, treacle-ish in nature, and with a rounded and pleasantly tannic aftertaste.
    Best with milk.
  • Assam Mangalam Estate SFTGFOP1   £5.29 /100g
This golden-tipped tea from the renowned Mangalam estate is a true exemplar of an Assam, with a perfectly rounded malty flavour and sweet caramel nose. It takes milk if desired, but by no means requires it – we recommend brewing it a little stronger if adding milk. Fantastic!
  • NEW -- Assam Tonganagaon Estate TGFOP1   £3.29 /100g
Malty, lively and somewhat fruity, this makes for a wonderful addition to our collection, particularly suited to that "morning boost" cuppa' ensuring you can close that deal, finish the breakfast sudoku (the fiendishly hard one of course), or just get through to lunch after a late night reading political memoirs under the bedsheets.
  • Nilgiri TGFOP1 Thiashola Estate (Organic)   £2.89 /100g
Fiery, edgy flavours from the Southern Indian "blue mountains" of Nilgiri. A delicious afternoon black tea which we preferred without milk.

Other Origins

  • Java OP Malabar   £2.19 /100g
A warm and fruity tea providing a slight chocolate nose on the dry leaves. Excellent value every day drinking.
  • Kenya Marinyn Estate   £2.89 /100g
The ideal every-day tea for anyone who has frequent visitors - as single origin teas go, this is the ultimate in versatility: delicious on its own, but equally at home with milk and sugar. And after you serve this to your friends, they'll probably be back soon for more!
